Статья является продолжением серии материалов о зарождении и развитии летних Паралимпийских игр. В ней приведены основные вехи становления Паралимпийского движения во временной период с 1988 по 2004 годы. За этот временной отрезок состоялось 5 летних Паралимпийских игр. В 1988 году Играх, которые состоялись в столице Южной Кореи – Сеуле, впервые приняла участия команда нашей страны – тогда это была сборная команда СССР. В 1992 году в испанской Барселоне российские спортсмены после распада СССР выступали уже в объединенной команде СНГ. Российская сборная дебютировала на следующих летних Паралимпийских играх 1996 года в США, в Атланте. С 1988 по 2004 годы сборная команда нашей страны прошла путь от первого выступления на Играх до первых крупных побед. Этот период можно назвать началом расцвета Паралимпийского движения. В 1989 году был сформирован Международный Паралимпийский Комитет, на который были возложены обязанности развития мирового паралимпийского спорта, организации и проведения Игр, а также других крупных международных соревнований. C 1988 по 2004 годы количество проводимых на летних Играх видов спорта увеличилось с 16 до 20. В Паралимпийских играх стали принимать участие лица с интеллектуальными нарушениями.
The article is a continuation of a series of materials on the origin and development of the Summer Paralympic Games, the main milestones of the formation of the Stoke-Mandeville, then the Paralympic movement are given. This article examines the time period from 1988 to 2008. During this time period, 7 Summer Paralympic Games took place. In 1988, the team of our country took part in the Summer Paralympic Games, which were held in the capital of South Korea, Seoul, for the first time – then it was the USSR national team. In 1992, in Barcelona, Spain, Russian athletes, after the collapse of the USSR, performed in the united CIS team. The Russian national team made its debut at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in USA, Atlanta. In this time period, the Russian national team has gone from the first performance at the Games to taking leading positions in the unofficial team competition. It should be noted that the period from 1988 to 2008 can be called the heyday of the Paralympic movement. In 1989, the International Paralympic Committee was formed, which was entrusted with the responsibilities of developing world Paralympic sports, as well as organizing and holding the Paralympic Games, as well as other major international competitions. The number of sports held at the Summer Games has increased to 20. People with intellectual disabilities began to take part in the Paralympic Games.
