Анализируя статистику выступления отечественных легкоатлетов на Олимпийских играх и Чемпионатах Мира в период с 1952 по 2021 годы автор делает попытку определись основные тенденции в развитии отечественной мужской легкой атлетики и те изменения, которые произошли после распада СССР. Если в советский период конкурентно способными на международной арене можно считать 10 видов из 24 и наиболее медальными для мужчин являлись легкоатлетические метания, то в российский период таких видов осталось только 3, а 63,4% призовых мест завоевали представители вертикальных прыжков и ходьбы. Основной процент завоеванных отечественными легкоатлетами медалей традиционно приходится на технические виды и ходьбу, а успехи практически во всех беговых видах программы являются единичными

Analyzing the statistics of the performance of domestic athletes at the Olympic Olympic Games and the World Cup in the period from 1952 to 2021, the author tries to determine the main trends in the development of domestic men's athletics and the changes that have occurred after the collapse of the USSR. If in the Soviet period 10 events out of 24 were competitive in the international arena, and throwing was the most medal-winning for men, then in the Russian period remained only 3 competitive, and 63.4% of the prizes were won by representatives of vertical jumps and walking.
