The article presents an analysis of the dynamics of competitive activity of people with disabilities with damage to the musculoskeletal system engaged in powerlifting. The dominant motives that encourage these people to engage in competitive and training activities have been identified. The influence of the level of sportsmanship of the participants of the competition on the dominant motives is determined. The results of the study of the importance of competitions in the sports activities of the disabled are presented. The study was conducted among athletes of the Khabarovsk Territory — participants of the open Championship of the Khabarovsk Regional sports and adaptive school. The analysis of the obtained results is carried out in comparison with the data of the study of the participants of the Russian championship in Aleksin.
