The article presents an analysis of tactical options for passing competitive distances by top-level biathletes. An analysis of the dynamics of the competitive speed of the 60 strongest biathletes competing at the World Cup stages in the 2021-2022 season showed that the athletes demonstrate maximum speed in races from a mass start, despite the fact that this is one of the longest distances in biathlon. Both men and women have a tendency to reduce speed in the middle of the distance and increase it on the final lap. The speed on the finishing lap has the greatest impact on the sports and technical result.
