The purpose of the study is to identify the relationship between competitive loads in the macrocycles of annual seasons of the Olympic cycle and the result of official matches in the preparation of the Russian men's national field hockey team for the 2008 Olympic Games. Research methods: pedagogical monitoring of competitive loads, expert qualimetry methods, mathematical statistics methods. Research results and conclusions. A classification of competitive preparation in team sports (using field hockey as an example) was proposed. It was revealed that in the preparation of the Russian national team, unofficial international games clearly prevailed over all‑Russian ones. At the same time, the share of indoor hockey games was 54%. It was revealed that the greatest influence on the final result in the macrocycles of the annual season of the Olympic cycle was exerted by official and friendly international games. The scoring assessment of the results of official international competitions showed a low correlation with the number of all‑Russian friendly and official games played.
