The article discusses the role of innovation in the development of sports from a practical point of view, aimed at the result, as well as physical culture as a science, addressed to the formation of innovative approaches in education, the creation of theoretical methodological developments. On the example of the work of educational institutions with the status of municipal innovation sites, the stages, principles and mechanisms for introducing pedagogical innovations in educational organizations are analyzed. The problems of motivation during the introduction of innovations, the lack of theoretical, methodological and informational base among teachers are considered. Based on the previously considered principles and possible problems, one of the innovative methods in pedagogy in the field of physical culture is analyzed
