The article presents some peculiarities of athletes' training process in preparation for ultra-long distances. Eight highly qualified track-and field female athletes were examined (MS=5, MSIG=3). During the stage control, including minute volume of respiration dynamics assessment ratio to the power of the increasing load (Patent No. 2010129628), the energy profile indicators of the athletes' functional fitness at the general preparatory stage (GPS) and special preparatory (SPS) stages were studied, the interval between studies was 4.5 months. Results: on the GPS, Wmax= 180 W (Me), WAT (anaerobic threshold)= 160 W (Me), HR 14stage=155bpm (Me), AP=18,9 CU. 4,5 months later, by the beginning of the SPS, Wmax indicators significantly improved to 200 W (Me) (p=0,013); WAT to 180 W (Me) (p=0,031); heart rate 14,0 to 157 bpm (Me) (p=0,024), heart rate max to 182,9±7,1 (p=0,001), AP decreased to 17,6 CU (Me) (p=0,011). Conclusions: the data obtained reflect the peculiarities of ultra-long distance athletes' functional fitness associated with the economization of the cardiorespiratory system functioning, which is a consequence of adaptation to the performed loads specifics, in a greater proportion of which long cyclic aerobic loads prevail
