The article is devoted to the theoretical study of the aesthetic component of modem sports, which involves its philosophical and aesthetic analysis. The authors consider the aesthetics of sports both in the categories of traditional and modern aesthetics, revealing their significant differences. The article draws attention to the fact that the semantic aesthetic thought was a category of beautiful, since in this discourse our society as a whole and the institution of sports in particular were understood as something harmonious, inside itself, a perfect whole, and what does not correspond to this was qualified as simply as simply excess. In modern aesthetics, the category of the ugly begins to acquire an independent meaning, since with the help of one category of the beautiful, it becomes difficult to comprehend internal contradictions, disharmony and dissonances both in the meaning of an individual, and various social institutions and society as a whole. In these conditions, the ugly has more functionality, since the dramaturgy of the action directly follows from the disharmony of circumstances
