In modem football, the problem of the relative age effect (RAE) as a factor in the recruitment of groups and teams is gaining its relevance. The purpose of our study was to study the prevalence of RAE at the stage of initial training of football players. The pedagogical experiment revealed the severity of the relative age effect in the group of football players, as well as the advantage of early-born players over late-born ones in physical and technical fitness. In order to avoid the spread of RAE, children's coaches need to pay attention to the preparation of players and not replace the concepts of physical maturity and talent in certain age ranges.
