The article discusses the issue of spectator appeal of wrestling bouts at the Olympic Games, which is relevant for Greco-Roman wrestling, in terms of changes in competition rules. The purpose of the study is to identify the impact of rule changes on the spectator appeal of wrestling bouts at the Olympic Games of different years. Research methods. A retrospective comparative analysis of the spectator appeal of wrestling bouts at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games and bouts at modern Olympic Games was conducted. Conclusions. A tendency towards a decrease in spectator appeal was revealed, which is the main reason for the low popularity of Olympic wrestling.
