The process of developing the property of speed very strongly determines the degree of success in practicing various sports. Consideration of its formation as it grows up can help in terms of increasing the success of the training of many specializations of athletes, especially those involved in martial arts. Purpose of the study - to establish the features of the development of speed in different categories of martial artists. Methodology and organization of the study. The state of 68 male athletes in adolescence and youth was monitored. Karateka, judoka and aikidists were examined. Groups of untrained individuals were recruited, which are control groups, consisting of 12 adolescents and 14 young men. The level of speed development was determined by conducting a 30-meter running test on the go. The value of Student's t-test was determined. Research results and discussion. Judoists had the most pronounced speed ability among the examined athletes. They had a higher speed of movement than karatekas and aikidists. Observed physically untrained people had the lowest speed characteristics. In the process of growing up, there was an increase in speed in all young men compared to this indicator in adolescents. Conclusions. Judo wrestlers had the most developed speed characteristics among combatants. Their speed capabilities exceeded those of karate and aikidists. In the course of growing up, in all categories of the examined, the level of speed increased
