The article presents a comparative description of the functional capabilities of highly qualified skiers and skiers when moving to the stage of higher sportsmanship in a step test using the Concept SkiErg ski ergometer (double poling), a running treadban, as well as a modified version of the Conconi field test on roller skis (F- style). The study revealed that the functionality of skiers when moving to the stage of higher sportsmanship is distinguished by less power when working with hands, running speed and speed of movement on skiers at the level of the anaerobic exchange threshold, compared to highly qualified skiers. There are no differences in heart rate at the level of anaerobic metabolism threshold and peak lactate values between the two groups of skiers under study. The practical significance of the obtained research results lies in the focus of training loads in the preparatory period of training young skiers to increase the power and efficiency of aerobic capabilities with mandatory control of the intensity of training loads
