The purpose of the study was to analyse and classify models of sport science support (SSS) in elite athletes’ preparation. The following indicators have been used: 1) availability of a head sport scientist, who also works as a coaches’ educator and team manager; 2) utilisation of series of testing to measure various components of performance and analyse training loads effects; 3) implementation of specific testing routines; 4) quantity and quality of control programs; 5) presence of scientific and educational directions. Nine different SSS models has been defined, which were evaluated using 10 points scale of above indicators. Traditional model of Complex Scientific Group (CSG) was found as the most advanced one. Other models were found insufficient in important characteristics with correspondingly lower scores. Examples of above models utilisation in various National teams have been presented. Comparison of SSS models scores with results of National teams of USSR and Russia at Olympic Games revealed similar trends, which could indicate interdependence of these variables. Concluding, it could be expected that restart of the traditional CSG model in Russian National team could improve their performance at Olympic Games
