The topic of this article is relevant, as the health of the younger generation is deteriorating due to the lack of proper nutrition and exercise. The purpose is to identify the motives that determine the attitude of students of SSEU and SSSPU to physical culture and sports, in order to improve the organization of the discipline "Physical Culture and Sports". Tasks: 1) to identify the attitude of students to physical culture and sports as phenomena of social life; 2) to identify the dominant motives that encourage students to engage in physical culture; 3) to identify the reasons for the passive attitude to physical education of students of various universities. The scientific novelty lies in determining the main motives that encourage students to attend the discipline "Physical Culture and Sports", as well as to engage in physical activity in general. The results obtained will allow to adjust the motivation and educational trajectory of students depending on the chosen areas of training
