A high level of physical fitness makes it possible for police officers to skillfully apply combat techniques of fighting against law enforcement violators. The high role and direct relationship of physical fitness with the level of overall performance is also emphasized. To achieve the goals of physical fitness, the content of classes should include exercises from a variety of sports (swimming, skiing, athletics, etc.). In this regard, the goal was set to determine the level of preparedness in selected sports (swimming, skiing, athletics) of the training educational organizations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and to get an opinion on the need for their inclusion in the educational process. To achieve this goal, a study was organized on the basis of the Belgorod Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia named after I.D. Putilin. It was attended by cadets of 2, 3, 4 courses of various faculties of the Institute. In total, more than 150 cadets participated in the study. The survey showed that the majority of cadets get acquainted with sports at school and in the family. Basically, the cadets assess their level of preparedness as average. At the same time, they note the need to include a variety of sports in the system of training cadets and police officers. The results of practical testing show that despite the lack of training of some cadets, all coped with the tasks. Analyzing the results obtained, it can be concluded that most of the cadets have a low level of preparedness in swimming and skiing. The test results in athletics demonstrate an average level of preparedness, as the elements are used in the classroom and standards are regularly passed
