Introduction. The problem of the success of the performances of teenage athletes at competitions of various levels is relevant, while the victories of athletes largely depend on their ability to overcome competitive anxiety. This phenomenon has been studied by a number of researchers (L.I. Kostyunina, VL. Markin, 2015; L.G.Maydokina, V.V.Maydokin, I.V Shindina, 2018, etc.). At the same time, there is a need to study the possibility of its reduction, to identify such personal resources as adequate and high self-esteem in adolescent athletes. They are a reserve of high-achievement sports. A number of questions arise: Does the success of performing at competitions depend on the level of anxiety? Are competitive anxiety and adolescent athletes' self-esteem related? If so, how to increase self-esteem? Who should do this - a coach, a teacher-psychologist, parents? How to convince the coaches of the need for this work? Is it possible for a psychologist to become a specialist of a teenage sports team, are there any teachers-psychologists working in schools who are competent in working with sections and their athletes? Where and who trains such psychologists? Will they be able to cope with the task of increasing self-esteem in teenage athletes? An attempt to find answers to these questions initiated the study. The purpose of the study: to study the relationship between self-esteem and competitive anxiety and to develop recommendations for improving the self-esteem of adolescent athletes. The methodology and organization of the study was determined taking into account the age of athletes, the specifics of their training and competitive processes, as diagnostic tools were methods that allow studying competitive anxiety and self-esteem. The results of the study and their discussion. The study revealed the existence of a link between competitive anxiety and self-esteem of adolescent athletes, it turned out that the higher the level of self-esteem, the lower the indicators of competitive anxiety. That is why we should talk about the need for thoughtful and systematic work to improve the self-esteem of teenage athletes, combining the efforts of coaches and psychologists. Conclusions. The analysis of the results made it possible to formulate recommendations for coaches and psychologists working with athletes in sections and sports clubs and associations
