The motivation of achievement largely determines a person's creative and proactive attitude to business, manifests itself in the desire to make the maximum possible efforts and achieve the best results for themselves in a significant field of activity. In this regard, the determination of the quality of motivation of students was the purpose of our research. The analysis of the general sample allowed us to give a qualitative characteristic of the motivational component of the personality of students of the 1st - 4th year of a technical university. In turn, the obtained data revealed the need to differentiate approaches in teaching, taking into account the knowledge of the specifics of the level of motivation formation of the student youth
