Introduction. The rich historical experience of taekwondo development has led to the emergence of a large number of techniques for performing kicks. Active scientific research on the biomechanics of taekwondo began only in 2000, when taekwondo became an Olympic sport. In most scientific studies on the biomechanics of taekwondo, research is based on the deep analysis of one or more kicks. At the same time, a large number of options for performing techniques requires in-depth biomechanical systematization. The aim of the study is to identify biomechanical characteristic, that allow classifying kicks in taekwondo. Methods and organization of research. We studied the scientific literature on biomechanics, theory and methodology of sports training. The empirical data of kicks biomechanics described in the literature and obtained as a result of our own researches were analyzed. The system analysis was used to identify biomechanical criteria for classifying impacts. Research results and discussion. The study of scientific literature, as well as the comprehension of our own research, allowed us to identify six biomechanical criteria that allow us to classify kicks in taekwondo: the presence of support, the plane of kick the trajectory of kick the direction of kick, the change in articular angles during kick, the kinetic energy of kick, the forces affecting the kick. Conclusions. Scientific literature and fundamentals of taekwondo revealed 26 techniques of kicking (chagi) and 68 different variants of execution. The techniques of kick can differ fundamentally, since they are based on various "biomechanisms" of performing a motor action. The systematization of kicks based on biomechanics will allow for the classification of strokes, which in turn will contribute to improving the process of technical training of taekwondists
