2023 by decree of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin, dated 06/27/2022, was declared the Year of the Teacher and Mentor, in order to recognize the special status of teachers, including those engaged in mentoring activities. Educator, teacher, lecturer, mentor - how many different words that mean the only thing - people who devote their lives to serving others, for the benefit of educating and educating the next generations. Perhaps no one will dispute the fact that everything related to education has always had, has and will always have relevance, because the quality of the educational process directly depends on the personality of the teacher. The purpose of this study was to identify the most significant personal and professional qualities of a teacher in the modern world from the point of view of students. As a result of the study, it was revealed that among the most significant personal qualities of a teacher, students distinguish: sociability, patience, respect for people, humanity. It should be noted separately that the specialization of students influences the choice of the most acceptable personal qualities of a teacher. Among the professional qualities for students, it is important that the teacher is able to explain complex things in simple language, knows his subject at a high level. In addition, students are very critical of the teacher's assessment of the knowledge they have received, so it is very important for them to have fair assessment that reflects the real level of their knowledge
