The article deals with the problem of the formation of moral qualities of students in higher education as a behavior regulator that determines the life goals of the individual and the means to achieve these goals. The author analyzes the volitional qualities of the person, which act as necessary psychological concepts for the implementation of these goals in practice. It was noted that the moral orientation of the person significantly affects the assessment of its volitional properties: the development of purposefulness, perseverance, endurance, courage. The role of physical training as an effective means with broad opportunities for the formation of moral and volitional qualities is substantiated. The problem of neutralizing destructive aggression was considered, which manifests itself in the willingness of the student to cooperation, honesty, self-confidence, independence in circumstances requiring the individual to control aggressive reactions, both in sports and in everyday life
