The article presents an analysis of the survey of first-year students conducted at the first introductory physical education lesson at Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. The percentage of student-athletes with TRP insignia and students of a special medical group (disabled people) identified during the study allows them to be competently divided into study groups and physical training departments. The results obtained allow us to characterize students from a physical culture and sports point of view, to identify their motivation for physical education.
