Pump effect as a manifestation of short-term hypertrophy of human skeletal muscles induced by strength training
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
The article examines the effect of pumping on the anthropometric indicators and mechanical properties of the biceps brachii muscle. The purpose of the study is to assess the impact of pumping on changes in anthropometric indicators and mechanical characteristics of human skeletal muscles, as well as to determine the duration of the pump effect. Research methods and organization. Anthropometry and methods for assessing the mechanical properties of skeletal muscles were applied. The study was conducted with the participation of six bodybuilders. Research results and conclusions. It has been established that the use of pumping allows for a reliable increase in the circumference of the shoulder under maximum muscle tension by 1.5±0.2 cm within 15-30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the shoulder circumference returns to its initial level. Thus, the pump effect persists for 30 minutes.
