The concept of physical and sports orientation provides each student with the opportunity not only to learn about various approaches to solving the issue of sports selection, but also to choose, from their perspective, the most suitable type of sport for future practical activities at the university. The relevance of this topic is expressed in the trend of development and popularization of numerous sports that have emerged in modern conditions, but are not always implemented in the educational process of physical education departments at universities. To achieve good results in the pedagogical process, the physical education department should not lag behind the modern needs of young people. The article presents a study on students' opinions in the context of sports orientation during their university education. The conclusion is drawn about the necessity of annual testing of students' interest in various sports, which should enhance the development of student sports in universities.
