One of the important directions of activity for psychologists working with academically gifted children is the study of adaptation mechanisms and its disruptions in schoolchildren, identifying the reasons for maladaptation development, and its prevention. To study the peculiarities of adaptation of schoolchildren to the conditions of learning and living in a school for gifted children, students of the Academic Gymnasium of St. Petersburg State University (AG SPbU) were examined. The level of neuro-psychological maladaptation was measured, taking into account the experience of sports activities. It was found that students who engage in sports may adapt more successfully to the conditions of learning and living in the boarding school. The obtained results can be used for the development of an effective psychological support program for students at AG SPbU.
