Big air is an Olympic technical-aesthetic discipline in snowboarding, with athletes' performances evaluated using a point system. The practice of holding competitions in the big air discipline shows that due to the peculiarities of the formation of the ranking range and the conditions for summing up the results of the final part of the competition, much less complex elements have an unreasonably high weight in the resulting sum of scores compared to the most complex technical elements performed with minimal errors, since they are evaluated using a wider ranking range. The article theoretically substantiates and presents the results of testing the option of optimizing the range of ranking technical elements during snowboard competitions in the discipline of big air, taking into account the developed complexity coefficient. The results of the study can be used in the preparation of snowboard athletes and the organization of big air snowboarding competitions.
