The authors of the article assessed the level of knowledge of the students of academies in the conditions of the educational process in the discipline "Physical training". The results of oral interviews and analysis of methodological practices indicate a superficial understanding of the theoretical and organizational and methodological foundations of physical training, as well as knowledge of the governing documents regulating the procedure for managing physical training in the battalion - military unit-compound link. The ways of introducing advanced innovations aimed at increasing the level of theoretical knowledge in the educational process of physical improvement of military personnel are considered and their effectiveness is evaluated
