Introduction. An important goal of training the sports reserve is to achieve a high level of quality of the educational and training process of young athletes. In this regard, there is a need to search for out-oftraining factors that determine the effective achievement of the goal. One of these factors is the professional image of the coach. Methods and materials of the study. The research methods were: qualitative content analysis of regulatory and program-methodical documentation regulating the quality of the process of preparation of the sports reserve in the Russian Federation; survey of 450 pupils of sports schools aged 14-18, 250 parents of young athletes and 32 coaches; mathematical and statistical data processing by means of averages, factor analysis with rotation of reference axes according to the Varimax criterion and single-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results of the study and their discussion. A factor model of the quality indicators of the educational and training process of young athletes has been developed, represented by four blocks: 1) performance indicators of the training process (27.46%); 2) the activity of the coach in the field of quality assurance of the training process (21.72%); 3) procedural characteristics of the quality of the training process (15.44%); 4) professional and personal qualities of the coach (7.61%). An image profile is built - a factor model of the “ideal” coach of a sports school, which has four components in its composition: 1) professionalism and competence (31.72%); 2) personal component (25.85%), which includes cognitive, emotional, moral and behavioral-communicative blocks of image characteristics; 3) visual component (18.88%), consisting of habit and kinetic components; 4) status component (17.19%). Conclusions. It is established that all four groups of indicators of the quality of the training process (effective, procedural, the activity of the coach in the field of quality assurance of the training process, as well as professional and personal qualities of the coach) depend on the image of the coach. The most influential (in terms of the number and magnitude of statistically significant relationships formed) a component of the professional image of a sports school coach is “professionalism and competence”.
