The article analyzes the use of sports games in some universities of St. Petersburg when using disciplines in physical culture and sports in the educational process in the light of the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of Higher Education of the “3+” generation and possible ways to implement this means of physical culture. On the basis of the analysis, conclusions were reasonably drawn about the use of sports games as an effective means of developing the professionally applied psychophysical qualities in students for a number of specialties. The direct and indirect transfer of skills formed by sports games to practical professional activities was substantiated, in particular, on the basis of the professiogram in the direction of management. The conditions and recommendations for organizing an effective educational process in sports games at the university were proposed.
