The article analyzes theoretical, methodological and scientific approaches regarding the concept of information need from the point of view of the specifics of its origin, nature and interaction with other human needs. The interdependence of the nature of information activity and communication capabilities of the individual is determined. It is shown that communication makes it possible to consider the information need not as a sum of different motives, but as a single, integral one, through which all its other components will pass and specifically manifest themselves.
