Now there is no need for irrational thinking, however, magical thinking has not only not disappeared, but is also experiencing a new takeoff. The problem of this study is the lack of a clear understanding of the psychological characteristics of people who are committed to magical ideas of influencing their lives and the world around them. The purpose of the study. The purpose of this study is to identify the psychological characteristics of people who combine rational and irrational in planning and regulating their lives. The methodology and organization of the study. The study involved 62 people aged 18-40 years (21 men, 41 women) with a level of education from secondary specialized to higher education. Research methods: questionnaires, testing. Research results and discussion. The overwhelming majority of the surveyed are more or less characterized by thoughts that minor irrational actions or irrational thoughts taken can have an impact on their lives or the lives of other people. The severity of magical thinking correlates with the severity of obsessive symptoms. People who use magical thinking more often have a high level of anxiety. Different forms of magical thinking are based on different psychological characteristics of the subjects. Conclusions. 1. Most of the subjects are characterized by performing ritual actions, or having thoughts that, in their opinion, are able to influence what is happening to a person and are designed to reduce the level of anxiety. 2. The formation of magical thinking is associated with its purposeful cultivation in society, and a sufficient level of development of logical thinking is not an obstacle. 3.
