The article discusses the theoretical and practical foundations of the activation of cognitive activity (PD) of students of the University of physical culture and sports. The above-mentioned theoretical and practical foundations of PD are actualized in the conditions of the educational process of students of the University of physical culture and sports, having a positive impact on the formation and development of their cognitive activity. It is the physical culture and sports space of educational activity, the realization of the duality of the goals of the educational process that make it possible to combine the theoretical and practical foundations of cognitive activity into a single system. Methodological approaches to the activation of PD allow us to provide conceptual conditions for the formation of a harmoniously and comprehensively developed personality of a specialist in the field of physical culture and sports. Methods of activating PD trigger the mechanism of self-development of students of the University of physical culture and sports, complement its pedagogical tools. The conditions for the activation of PD reflect the requirements for the educational and sports activities of students of the University of physical culture
