The article presents the results of a survey of students conducted to identify the features of sports habits and inclinations of students of universities of the People's Republic of China to physical activity. This was the basis for determining ways to reform university physical education classes based on sports preferences and individual inclinations of students to physical activity. 471 Chinese university students took part in the survey. The questionnaire was a list of questions about the level of physical activity of the respondents, the degree of their motivation to play sports, the nature of difficulties that prevent moderate or intense physical exertion. The survey also revealed the level of knowledge of students about the beneficial effects of sports on the body, their expectations from physical education. Based on the data obtained during the remote survey, the author of the article suggests several ways and means to improve the quality of conducting
