At the present stage of hockey development, in order to improve the tactical readiness of hockey players, there is a need to identify the playing zones in which tactical actions are most often performed in defense in competitive games of hockey players aged 11-12 and to determine the most significant physical qualities necessary to perform technical and tactical actions with zone defense in competitive games of hockey players aged 11-12. In order to identify the playing areas in which tactical actions in defense are most often performed in competitive games of hockey players aged 11-12, we conducted pedagogical observation of five games of the team under study. In order to determine the most significant physical qualities necessary to perform technical and tactical actions during zone defense in competitive games of hockey players aged 11-12, we conducted a survey of fifteen specialists in the field of hockey. It is established that the most common tactical actions in defense in competitive games of young hockey players are performed in the middle zone and in the defense zone, the most significant physical qualities necessary to perform technical and tactical actions in zone defense in competitive games of hockey players aged 11-12 are coordination and endurance. To improve the zone defense, coaches of hockey teams aged 11-12 should pay attention to the tactical actions of young hockey players in defense in the middle zone and in the defense zone, develop physical qualities of coordination and endurance necessary for young hockey players to perform technical and tactical actions in zone defense
