Physical culture and sports local history competence is an important component of the professional competence of the physical education teacher and trainer. The main organizational tool for its formation should be the specialized academic discipline included in the curriculum of vocational education. Currently, experts do not have common opinion about its name, structure, scope and content. In this work, based on the analysis of information sources, as well as personal long-term experience of physical culture and sports local history activities, the current state of the issue under consideration is analyzed. As a result of the study, we came to the conclusion that the specialized discipline should be called "Physical and sports local history". The structure of the educational material of this discipline should consist of three main sections: "Theoretical and methodological aspects of physical culture and sports local history"; "Local history of the development of physical culture and sports"; "Methodological and organizational aspects of physical culture and sports local history."
