The purpose of the study is to identify the conditions for the development of research competencies in future engineers through the development of innovative forms of interaction with students in the information space. Research methods and organization. Theoretical analysis of the scientific and methodological literature on the research topic has been utilized, along with an analysis of the activities of the Student Scientific Society of the institute, and pedagogical observation of the subjects involved in the educational process in the development of research competencies of future transport engineers through their engagement in project activities. Statistical methods of analyzing the results have been employed. The role of the Student Scientific Society in the university is considered as an effective means of involving students in research and project activities. Research results and conclusions. The conditions for the development of research competencies among future engineers have been formulated. The experience of the Student Scientific Society in implementing youth initiatives in the scientific field has been presented: advantages, issues, and solutions. The dynamics of scientometric indicators of student science at the Orenburg State Transport Institute have been analyzed.
