The purpose of the study is to develop and scientifically substantiate an experimental methodology aimed at assessing the level of physical fitness of students at the pedagogical university within the framework of mastering the content of elective courses in physical education. Research methods and organization. The diagnostic program was developed with the necessity of a comprehensive assessment of the level of development of basic physical qualities in mind. The study involved 560 students enrolled at the budgetary institution of higher education 'Surgut State Pedagogical University' in faculties that do not have a sports focus. Research results and conclusions. In the course of the conducted research, the results of students were differentiated by their levels of physical fitness. The analysis of scientific and methodological literature indicates the existence of various approaches to the construction of normative scales and classification systems for physical development indicators used in sports metrology. In order to ensure objective control and comprehensive assessment of the physical fitness of students in pedagogical universities, it is advisable to implement an expanded set of test exercises. This approach will not only identify the level of development of fundamental physical qualities but also allow for a reasoned gradation of the obtained results according to established levels of development. The conversion of test results into a scoring system allows for the visualization of each student's individual physical fitness profile in the form of a chart. This method of presenting information serves as a basis for implementing an individualized and differentiated approach in the study of elective courses.
