The article presents the results of applying the methodology using elements of athletic gymnastics in elective courses in general physical education and independent studies with female students of the Novosibirsk Technological Institute. During the pedagogical experiment, the effectiveness of using this technique was revealed; with three classes per week, the performance of girls in the experimental group improved when compared with students in the control group in such indicators as physical performance according to the PWC170 test and the Genche test. Also, during the study, the experimental group significantly improved their back strength, backbone index, vital capacity, circulatory efficiency indicator and exercise heart rate. Based on the results obtained, we can conclude that the inclusion of elements of athletic gymnastics in elective courses in general physical education and two independent classes per week with a properly organized methodology can reliably improve some indicators of the physical health of female students.
