Motivation issues are always relevant. Motivations influence behavioral characteristics and determine the student's activity. This aspect is especially important when choosing a profession. It is important for a student to be aware of the need for training, physical culture and sports, to understand that modern education has reached a qualitatively different level. The paper analyzes the motivation of students to acquire knowledge, master a profession, obtain a diploma of higher education, and examines the motivational sphere of student-athletes. The data obtained can be taken into account when building the educational process, will create prerequisites that realize the interests of students in the educational and physical culture and recreation work of the university.
