Development of a criterion for assessing students' strength readiness in the bench press based on GL points
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
The bench press as one of the strength exercises in powerlifting is especially popular among students. When developing a control section of an elective course on strength training using powerlifting tools, there arises a task of developing a criterion for assessing the level of strength readiness of students in the bench press. The results of the study show that, firstly, the average values of the maximum lifting weight of the barbell in the bench press are not commensurate with their body weight in all weight categories. Secondly, regarding sports standards, only about a fifth of students’ results correspond to the project qualification requirements presented in the IPF. Due to the fact that in order to conduct a correct assessment, its indicators must be suitable for the entire set of strength readiness results of all students, there was a need to develop a calculation criterion based on modern GL points. The developed criterion allows us to assess the level of strength readiness of male students in the bench press, regardless of the weight category.
