The purpose of the study is to reveal the relationship between the level of motivation of children of primary school age for physical culture and sports and the perception of the teacher's image. The methodology and organization of the study. The experiment was attended by students of general education schools in Moscow and the Moscow region, 61 children aged 6 to 11 years, including some of whom also attend school physical education and sports sections. The experiment was conducted from September 2022 to January 2023. Assessment of the perception of the image of a physical education teacher was carried out through the study of the "emotional prototype". A modification of the associative technique "Metamorphosis" (N.Ya. Semago) was used in the work. The interpretation of the data was carried out according to a scheme specially developed for the purpose of the experiment. Five pairs of alternative signs have been allocated to identify the emotional prototypes: sympathy / antipathy ("sign" of the hero); trust/distrust ("attitude" of the hero); personality / power, strength (“authority” of the hero), imitation / need for protection and care (communicative role); team/individual ("style" of the hero). The assessment of the level of children's motivation for physical culture and sports was carried out using the survey method (methodology of N.G. Luskanova). To assess the activity of pupils in the classroom, a survey was conducted of teachers who held classes. To measure the correlation between the perception of the teacher's image and the motivation and activity of schoolchildren, the Spearman's Rho was determined. Research results and conclusions. Analysis of the results of the experiment made it possible to identify a high correlation between motivation and sympathy and trust in the teacher. The results of the experiment also show that the child's sympathy depends on the attitude he feels on the part of the teacher. At the same time, the teacher's attitude towards children (trust in the teacher) has a bigger impact on children’s activity than motivation associated with other factors. The authority of the teacher has a moderate value, while the authority of the individual has a greater correlation with motivation, and the authority of power is more interconnected with activity. Thus, children's emotional perception of the teacher's personality has a significant impact on the motivation of children to engage in physical culture and sports
