The article provides a critical analysis of generic problems of physical education, as well as their historical context. An example of the manifestation of these generic problems is the dominant position in the pedagogical space of the concepts of "adaptation" and "educational standards". It can be concluded that attempts to implement an individual approach in modern pedagogy in the conditions of creating a developing environment encounter paradigms of pedagogy of traditional society in educational and sports practices. This paradigm is based on adaptive and standardized approaches. This problematizes the entire modern educational space, which, on the one hand, can become an impulse for its development, but, on the other hand, it can also aggravate the growing trends towards pedagogical decadence noted by the entire pedagogical community
