In recent years, public interest in topics related to distance learning has significantly increased, events have occurred that have necessitated the development of new methods and approaches to stimulate and improve the learning process in distance conditions. In particular, increasing the effectiveness of physical education teaching is one of the main tasks, because this academic discipline suffers the most in distance learning due to its specificity. One of the solutions to this problem can be the use of virtual reality (VR) as an additional tool that provides the most complete immersion and encourages students to engage in regular physical education. The article analyzes the potential of virtual reality technology in the context of physical education, studies the corresponding advantages and disadvantages of introducing technology into the educational process, by studying the already available theoretical information, and also by surveying the attitude of students of the Kuban State Technological University to this concept and its application within the framework of higher education. Thus, the article provides a fresh look at the possibilities and practical value of VR for teaching physical education within distance programs.
