Currently, there is a lack of attention to the substantive and methodological aspects of winter swimming. Winter swimming is a type of competitive outdoor activity that involves swimming without insulation in water temperatures from -2 °C to +16 ° C in the shortest possible time over various distances limited by water temperature and age of participants. Due to the increasing popularity of this type of physical culture and sports, there is a need and necessity to develop a methodology for winter swimming. The purpose of the study is to theoretically develop and experimentally substantiate the methodology of recreational winter swimming training. Research methodology and organization - The study was conducted among 72 healthy lifestyle enthusiasts. The average age of the subjects was 21-35 years. The participants were divided into two homogeneous experimental groups. The training process of both groups was carried out in the period from September 2021 to May 2022, taking into account the developed experimental methodology, with various forms of organization of classes. To assess the effectiveness of the methodology, the physical and functional fitness of athletes in both groups was tested before and after the start of the pedagogical experiment. The results of the study and their discussion, as well as the results of sports and pedagogical testing, testify to the effectiveness of our proposed winter swimming practice methodology. The results of functional tests after the experiment have positive dynamics in both groups, which indicates the positive effect of the proposed forms of organization of winter swimming classes on the level of the functional state of the body. Conclusions - After winter swimming lessons according to our methodology. All the subjects mastered the Finnish breaststroke swimming technique and were able to cover a distance of 25 meters. The majority of respondents rated their general condition as good and excellent. The indicators of functional tests have also improved.
