Rapidly changing conditions for the development of social, educational, professional spheres of life actualize the problem of psychological, social adaptation and self-realization of students. The influence of socio-economic transformations taking place in Russian society, the change of the conceptual foundations of modem education and upbringing; high knowledge intensity and technological efficiency of production cause the restructuring of basic values and cause the need to study the current value attitudes, cognitive, psychological and personal characteristics of students that determine the spiritual and moral, reflexive, behavioral dominants of consciousness. In order to study the factors influencing the processes of adaptation, confidence, success and self-realization of students, a pilot study was conducted at the bases of the Samara State University of Railways, Samara State University, Samara State Technical University. The sample consisted of 235 respondents. The studied indicators were divided into three groups. Individual typological indicators were assigned to the first group. The second group included indicators characterizing the level of physical development. The third was a generalized criterion reflecting the quality of life. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that in the conditions of high social risks of modem society, as negative reasons affecting the effective adaptation, self-realization and personality development of modern students, it is possible to identify, first of all, contradictions between existing and acquired knowledge, causing the presence of cognitive dissonance; defensive reaction (protest) to certain elements of traditional training systems (authoritarianism, training according to clearly stated patterns, etc.); the negative impact of situational factors and the lack of character traits and skills to resist them.
